It means people will talk about getting younger/better but refuse to suffer through the actual process. It means they want to rail against what's already happened but feel the need to repeat it because "what about now." To take a page out of Clod's book, Trout will do whatever the hell is best for him when that time comes.... the Trout window talk is stupid. The Angels need to do what's best for the franchise too and Trout is smart enough to figure out if that's happening or not. If that means they take their lumps this year and bring guys up or trade away Richards, so be it. The ultimate goal should be fixing this team long term, not appeasing someone who by most accounts has a pretty solid grasp on things and seems relatively well grounded. Is there any scenario where this team is better without Trout than with him? NO.. But they need to focus on what they can control and Trout's decision making isn't one of those things . When it's all said and done, nothing is likely to score more points with Trout that looking at this team and thinking it can be a winner for a long time... Does anyone think he's holding on to 2014 as he looks at the next 10 years? Would setting 2020-2023 back to win in 2018 make the Angels any more attractive to Trout or any other player? Go look at the Astros salary/contract situation the next few years... They have some hard choices to make, the Angels window is opening, not closing. Canning, Thaiss, Ward.. all of them could be a part of the "now" as soon as this year and definitely will be by opening day of next year. Obliterating the farm system because "what about now" would IMO be a pyrrhic victory at best. If they are concerned about making Trout believe they really want to win -- well. A certain yachtsman has more than enough money to do so, and there will at least two players coming available soon who check more boxes on the "right guy" list than anyone that's been available during his ownership. Think big.. think beyond "now".

    Cozart is utter garbage

Nothing is worse the Failbuena who now in his Angel career over 170 games is hitting .210 with a WAR of -0.3 this year, keeping him over Cron was a horrible decision. So what if he is a left handed batter, he couldnt hit a friggin beach ball

We absolutely don't need to give Jabari Blash a chance. This is a team that is trying to make the playoffs. They either need to get Calhoun fixed in the next 2-3 weeks or you go and get an actual major leaguer. Waiting around praying that Chris Young turns back the clock to 2009 or Blash does anything with that swing is just frustrating and will cost the team games. We have Trout, Simmons, and good starting pitching (even without Ohtani). There is absolutely no reason to settle for awful production from guys we know suck

Am I wrong, or do we see some significant returns from the farm system starting in September 2018 for regular roles in 2019? I think the Angels have been very veteran oriented with the position players over the last few years. We've seen the pitching prospects really develop and contribute, from Richards to Shoemaker to Skaggs, Meyer, to Heaney, Barria, Ohtani (does he count?) and Tropeano. We've seen relievers like Middleton, Bedrosian, and such make an impact. Yet the most significant bats we've produced in the last 8 years are: 1) Trout - Obviously. 2) Calhoun 3) Trumbo 4) Cron. Next would be people like Marte, Bourjos, Cowart, Navarro, Conger, Perez. The farm just hasn't given the Angels a good caliber starting position player since the first four above. Not compared to the starting pitching. We've been mostly a free agent and trade facilitated position player grouping since Aybar, Kendrick, Izturis, Morales, Kennedy, Molina, Figgins, Kotchman etc. in the early to mid-2000's filled out and then replaced the 1990's homegrown roster of Salmon, Anderson, Erstad, Edmonds, and Glaus. But I see talent at AAA in Thaiss, Fletcher and Ward who could all have regular roles in 2019. Hermosillio seems a bit overmatched, but not by a lot, and might be ready for full time in 2019. Renifigo is killing it at AA, as is Jared Walsh and Jose Rojas. And then in A-ball, Brandon Marsh, Jo Adell, and Jahmai Jones are all not exactly killing the ball, but definitely worth watching, soon. And Adell really has picked it up after a few rough games to start off the level. Even Baldoquin is hitting in A-Ball. I am very encouraged and can see Ward, Fletcher, and Thaiss filling roles that this year went to Marte, Valbuena, and Kinsler. And then in 2020, Adell or Marsh in Right Field.

I’d still take Calhoun over all present options. Blash is fucking awful.

We got the pre 2017 season Cozart. I'm done with him.

Keep him out of high pressure situations

Well Scioscia doesn’t call the pitches and Heaney was bad tonight. He threw the first fastball in the absolute middle of the plate. He threw the second fastball and missed location. I’m sure they game plan for players like Cruz.

Can he at least foul off the meatballs down the middle? Blash swung through five of them in two at bats

As is said on this board: "It's not my money". Still though, Angels gotta start getting better returns on their $$$ investments at some point. The contracts add up and the lack of production to go with it continues to sink them year after year. At least Cozart's contract isn't massive in dollars or length to where it hurts too badly.

Blash is awful. I don’t care what he does in AAA, he can’t hit up here, because his swing is fucking retarded.

Upton swings through a meatball right down the heart of the plate. Damn this game sucks

Whatever happened to parents letting their kids be kids? Neither my ex nor I ever pressured my daughter, other than to honor a simple commitment. She tried youth soccer, but once she tired of it, we didn't push her to stay in it after that one league ended, just honor her commitment for that youth league for that season. She loved acting, and in fact got a middle school award for her lead role in Bye Bye Burdie. But when she felt burnt out on acting after that year, we respected her wishes to back off from it as she had completed her commitment to that performance. Parents, let your kids be kids!!! They will only be a kid once. Muchas gracias

Discussions like this one are really amusing to me. Some people speak as if they have some authority. They post like they have actual knowledge of what someone is thinking or is going to do. They post like they've had face to face conversations and are privy to information no one else has. It's complete BS. What's really funny is how some people think people know who's actually going to be in a position to make the post-season consistently. I am guessing that most players would like to factor that into their decisions when they're making decisions - but truth is no one really knows. It's a complete farce. Not even the so-called "experts" know who is going to be the best team year to year. Who had Milwaukee, Atlanta, and Arizona as division leaders? Who had the Mariners? Remember when the Tigers traded for MIguel Cabrera? Weren't they "locks" to win a couple of world series'? What happened to the juggernaut that was supposed to be the Texas Rangers with their "awesome" pipeline of young talent? Truth is - winning is hard. Winning it all is even harder. After 2016 - a lot of people had the Cubs labeled as a "dynasty." Now, it's the Astros. Baseball is a funny game. It will humble anyone. Some of you were ready to crown the Astros champs just a couple weeks ago. Anything can happen. So... Trout has time to decide what he wants to do. NONE of know what factors will play into his decision. NONE OF US have a clue. I wish I had a dime for every time someone predicted a player would go to his childhood favorite team, etc. I'd be freakin' Arte Moreno rich. We don't know. We can speculate - but don't try and post as if you are some sort of authority on the matter. You ain't jack. None of us know what Trout is thinking or what his process will be. We don't know Arte's mind set either for that matter. I'll tell what I'M thinking though... this conversation is moronic on many levels. Don't misunderstand me. I don't have a problem with the conversation itself - it's the attitude some of you present in the process. Give an opinion. Have a take. But don't pretend like you know more than anyone else here with regards to Trout's future. You don't.
