  1. The last roster spot

Angels‏Verified account @Angels This morning, the #Angels reassigned Jose Fernandez and Matt Thaiss to minor league camp.
  2. The last roster spot

Taylor Blake Ward‏ @TaylorBlakeWard 23m23 minutes ago More Jabari Blash and Colin Walsh seemingly lost their Opening Day roster battle today, each has been optioned/assigned to minor league camp, along with Jose Briceno and Francisco Arcia #Angels
  3. Camp standouts A group of starting pitching prospects, all in the top half of the Angels' Top 30, got to Tempe early and have already created some early buzz. Canning, last year's second rounder, has lived up to that billing as a polished college starter, while Jose Suarez and Jose Soriano have also looked sharp. "Soriano is a guy who pitched in short-season ball last year and his stuff is even better than when we left instructional league," LaCassa said. "Physically, he's growing, he's strong, he's flexible, he's an athlete. He looks really good. Suarez is very polished beyond his years. He's a guy who could move quickly. His bullpens are as professional as they get. Griffin Canning, he and Suarez, it's like watching big league bullpens the way they command multiple pitches. Those guys definitely stand out."
  4. Jonathan Mayo‏Verified account @JonathanMayo More A little @Angels prospect news. RHP Chris Rodriguez has a stress reaction in his back, won't break camp with a full-season roster. On plus side, managing his IP for the year will be easier. No. 6 on their Top 30:
  5. Juan Contreras A $1.2M signing Contreras profiled as having two possible elite pitches with a fastball that hit 95 already, and a dynamite slider. He could project more towards a reliever, given no development in a third pitch, but has a very high ceiling.
  6. Baseball America‏Verified account @BaseballAmerica4 hours ago More The Angels signed a third player--18-year-old Dominican righthander Juan Contreras--who was granted free agency from the Braves in November as a consequence of their international signings infractions. Contreras signed with the Angels after the Major League Baseball-imposed Jan. 15 deadline, thus receiving no additional bonus on top of the $1.2 million deal he signed with Atlanta in 2016. 8. MLB Showcase Notebook: 2018 International Shortstop Prospects "Most of the top international prospects in the 2018 class participated in Major League Baseball's annual international showcase last week at Estadio Quisqeuya." Jose Bonilla, Dominican Republic Size: 6-0, 181, R-R Trainer: Nolan Pena 60 yards: 7.16 seconds Games: 1-for-5, 1 BB, 2 SO While Bonilla did show some swing-and-miss tendencies last week, scouts highest on him see an offensive-minded shortstop. A 15-year-old linked to the Angels, Bonilla showed a line-drive approach at the MLB showcase, and he has flashed more power in the past. Bonilla's hands and arm work well, though his footwork and range could lead him to third base.
  9. Tomorrow's pitchers... (First game of ST)

Tomorrow: Nick Tropeano and Parker Bridwell Saturday: Shohei Ohtani Sunday (Feb. 25): Garrett Richards Feb. 26: Tyler Skaggs Feb. 27: Matt Shoemaker Feb. 28: Andrew Heaney March 1: JC Ramirez
  10. Angels‏Verified account @Angels 4m4 minutes ago More Today, the #Angels traded INF C.J. Cron to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for a player to be named later.

  15. Mike DiGiovanna‏Verified account @MikeDiGiovanna 6m6 minutes ago More LH reliever Ian Krol, who pitched for ATL last season, is among #Angels non-roster invitees to spring training. So is a guy named Shohei Ohtani. Among top prospects in camp: OF Jahmai Jones, 1B Matt Thaiss, C Taylor Ward, INF Jose Fernandez.
