I was certain they would give up 3 in a game to Bregman this series (like they did to Betts last season) to cement the MVP for him. So at least it's Springer. I guess.

Much, much better. This team was a complete trainwreck just a few hours ago. On the verge of being called the worst team in the country. Now everyone is asking "is this the start of something?"

    For the season? Not me.

I'm visiting my parents for the weekend; I was watching the first half with my dad (UCLA '69) and he announced with disgust at halftime that he was going to bed. I told him I would wake him up if the game got close. I didn't. My bad.

Gordon is going to throw 9 TD passes and be the losing QB. Or UCLA is going to score 67 points and be the losing team. My God.

I wasn't sure UCLA would score 53 points the rest of the season.

It was an exciting offensive stretch. The defense is atrocious. Turnover or Touchdown. Very little in-between.

For when Verlander has a one-hitter through 6 in game 1 of the World Series and Ausmus saunters out and says "Sorry, JV, can't have you facing the lineup a third time."

I didn't think about the Nats. I didn't realize they were the top WC team in the NL. (I don't watch much NL ball.) I would love to see them win their first year without Harper. Even just make it to the NLCS.

I would cheer for the Dodgers over the A's, Yankees or Astros... but only because I don't live in SoCal anymore. If I were still there, I couldn't take it.

    Simmons

This is exactly how I felt a few months ago. I didn't see the Angels competing while Simmons is under his current contract; I figured the Angels could trade him for some young pitching that would be much more beneficial by the time the Angels are good again. But then Jeff Fletcher made a good point (I forget if it was here or Twitter) of which I had not thought: How many contending teams actually need a shortstop? I was thinking about it from the Angels perspective, not necessarily from other teams'. The market probably isn't as big as I assumed. (And if that was true with 1.5 seasons remaining on the contract, it's even more true with only 1 left.)

    The Curse of Jered Weaver

The Angels have had a staggering amount of bad luck these last few years, but I just don't see any connection - certainly not a "curse" - with Weaver. He was a flyball pitcher who outpitched his peripherals for years. Until he didn't. If anything, I feel fortunate we got to see so many great years with Weav, not cursed at all. That being said, it's a Friday afternoon in a lost season, and you gave me several minutes of an entertaining read. So thanks.
  15. You have to squint really hard to see how one run could have made much of a difference to a team 15 games under .500 in late September. Then again, my great, great, great grandfather thought he was boarding a boat to Australia in 1859 and ended up in Virginia. If he could read better, I would not exist. So we could play this game all day. What if Skaggs decided to read a book instead of getting drunk on a road trip? What if Upton had decided to pull up instead of running hard after a ball in a preseason game? Or La Stella had decided to take the pitch that broke his leg?
