from ESPN:

Joe Girardi is playing Tuesday's game between the Yankees and Astros under protest. Girardi had a fit over the go-ahead run coming across in the eighth inning when reliever Dellin Betances shot putted a ball over first baseman Mark Teixeira's head on an infield single from Carlos Correa. Girardi argued that Correa was inside the baseline and should've been called out. The play is not reviewable. Correa was on the infield grass as he went up the line, but -- even after conferring with his fellow umpires -- Dana DeMuth refused to change his mind. The Astros are leading the Yankees, 3-2, in the eighth.

edit: 5-2 now, Astros in the 8th.

Today's non-feel-good game: Boston vs Cleveland

David Price fans 10, David Ortiz goes deep, and Red Sox win 6-2.

Doggies won big last night, Harper homered, Texas and Houston both won their first game - all this in addition to the Angels getting beaten like a rented mule last night. Wonderful start to the season :/

At least the Yankees lost, though Girardi played the game under protest.

Has anyone ever won any of those protests?

I can't remember it ever happening.

Good call, Strad.

Or he could be David Freese and miss a quarter of the season and play just league average when he isn't booting ground balls.

2+ war is league average?

Know you guys don't care but Iannetta (who threw many swears) was just intentionally beaned by former Mariner pitcher Tom Wilhelmsen (Ejected) who is now a Ranger .... benches briefly cleared as the M's have destroyed the Rangers in the 8th.

I care. Was a big fan of Iannetta and Freese when they were with the Angels. Wish the angels attempted to re-sign them.

Vin Sully should have retired 10 years ago.

I'm still a young guy, what would I do with my life?

Stupid Bautista grabbed the SS's leg who was trying to turn 2 as he slid into 2nd base, made an errant throw.

Replay ensued. Umps called it a double play to end the game.

Stupid Bautista was stupid.

Girardi protesting that Correa running on the grass made Betances throw wild to first. I agree with Dana DeMuth, if he's on the grass throw it at his back. It's your job to get the out, not protect the runner.

Bury the ball between the R's on his name tape and he's out. Problem solved.

Hey Cezero, today is the 39th anniversary of the M's debut game (against the Halos in the Kingdome).

Despite losing the first two games and being shut out in both games by Tanana and Ryan, the M's took two of the next 3 to close the season opening 5 game series.

It's not often that two teams play a FIVE game series to open a season.

Cubs go from Anaheim to play the Diamondbacks, then home to face the Reds and Rockies...

They could go 12-0 to start the season.
