Terry Smith

One is like plain vanilla and the other is French vanilla.

If you have the MLB package and  listen to other teams announcers, you quickly conclude that the Angel announcers are about as mundane as they come. I almost always listen to the other teams announcers on radio.

Well, except the White Sox. Those guys are atrocious.

Terry seems like a nice guy, but if you listen to other teams’ radio broadcasts, you’ll realize how little real time PBP he actually does. I don’t even know that he’s not paying attention, it’s just that he’s too slow in all facets to keep up, whether it’s in describing the play or telling a story too slowly to get back to the action in time. With other teams, I know exactly when the next pitch is coming whereas with the Angels, often there have been 2 or 3 I’ve missed because they simply weren’t called.

On satellite radio, I hear almost all of the home team announcers out there. Terry is vanilla, but I'll take him any day over the ridiculous homers that broadcast for the White Sox, Indians, Yankees, etc...

It’s not even worth mentioning Gubi, we all know how bad and grating he is to listen to.

Honestly he’s the first Angels broadcaster that I have truly disliked significantly. I’d rather have Mota than him

there is never anything new with Gubi and his voice gets harder and harder to listen to each year

hes managed to be significantly more annoying than Rex Hudler. Which is just amazing when you think about it

Victor is great. Haven't heard Terry call a game but he's a bland, Kool-aid drinking homer on his post game show.

exactly! he's a big kool-aid drinker and makes me sick!

I like Terry's "outta here!!" home run calls. Always exciting.

Don't like Victor's "big fly" call. Big fly?? Just sounds wrong.

I like both

Terry has a good voice and can be kinda fun to listen to but he's terrible at telling the score on the radio. Always have to check my phone when I'm in traffic to even know what's going on. Also, when he does TV and they show him in the broadcast booth is when I remember why he's a radio guy haha

Rojas has grown on me, I used to find him a little annoying but he's solid. Gubi is terrible. Phys and Hud were bad. Although I think the greatest idiotic call came with them in a game against Toronto I believe, perhaps around 2008-2009. Aybar hits a ball in the gap and stretches it into a double. Hudler goes: "Wow Aybar is always in action doing good things out there," and Phys goes "You know Hud I think you may have just come up with a new nickname: Action Aybar!" Hudler: "Nahh I think we can come up with something better.' Phys: "Hmm okay. How about... AybARRGHH he's a pirate." *awkward silence* Hudler: "No I don't think that's very good."

This is exactly it. He rarely calls the pitch type. He's often dead wrong on location.

And listen to his play by play. He really cant call a play as he sees it. He has to go over it in his mind, from memory. Or he describes it as the replay is being quickly shown.

In the meantime, the crowd has gone crazy and you are left wondering for 3-5 seconds what happened, until he recounts it. But the excitement is anti climatic, at that point, as the crowd noise doesnt reinforce the play.

Rojas is pretty good, really. He's not a vanilla as I stated earlier. But there is getting to be a lot of dead air on the TV broadcasts during play. With the small crowds now in Anaheim, it's magnified.
