Prop 10

15 posts in this topic

Commercial blitz on this. Tried to read about it because they are showing the same groups saying vote yes followed by a commercial with the same vets saying to vote no.

What's this all about?

Tried reading about this, but each site seems slanted towards one type of vote.

Real answer though, if you think more restrictive state laws will help the housing crisis you're a Facking moron.

It's would take away power from the state and give it to local jurisdictions. So I guess you're the facking moron.

That's...not a very accurate description.

If the prop passes then it removes the handcuffs from the government's ability to control rent. It gives California even more power to exert their tyrannical ideology on people

Probably the biggest contest in terms of questions on the ballot here is Question 3, which would deregulate the electricity market in Nevada. After saying that they would take no stance on the question, NV Energy (the local electric monopoly) has dumped $30 million into advertising to maintain their stranglehold on electricity. They cite California as an example of what can go wrong when deregulation passes (even talking about Enron). They also have spokespeople (like a teacher of the year) who know jack about the utility industry but who they believe will have credibility with voters. The opponents act as if electric bills will go up overnight by hundreds of dollars for each family, when in reality the question gives the Nevada Legislature five years to craft the laws that will be used to enact it. The laws will have far more bearing on rates than the question itself will. I fear that this measure will fail and we will still be stuck with a monopoly.

Always a good idea to allow men with guns control over what you can do with your property
